Performance — where the rubber hits the road.
As you probably know, if your project's not affiliated with a subsidised theatre company, or commercial enterprise, it usually means DIY profit share: the local fringe; small to mid-scale venues; taking that project up to Edinburgh or down to London.
It's not as mad as it sounds. Well, okay, yes it is. Let's face it, you'll be doing very well just to break even; but you've go to be a bit bonkers in the first place. You've got to love it that much. It's why we're all here, and if not now, then when?
The Actors Circle can be a good place to test things out before you go all in.
Get Your Mojo Working...
Workshops — your happy place.
Sessions are two hours a week. More if people want it. Start with body limber and voice work, the latter ranging from half hour warm-ups to more in depth study.
After that, various skill areas are rotated: text work, audition pieces, scene study, acting for camera, things that come up.
The aim is to help people stay on track, to keep honing their skills, and survive in an industry that can feel increasingly like water slipping through your hands.
Collaboration — life beyond the monologue.
With The Actors Circle you have time to get to know each other's approach, build trust, and see who's a good fit for any projects you've got cooking.
When you're ready to turn up the gas, try stuff out, see if it's got legs, see if it can fly.
Showcases — are they still a thing?
Yes, actor showcases still work, but their effectiveness has changed, shifting away from "discovery" toward a tool for networking and industry visibility.
Some showcases can lead to representation, especially for well-prepared actors who already have strong materials (reels, headshots) and need to bridge the gap to representation, rather than newcomers looking to break in immediately.
With regards headshots & showreels, the Actors Circle can help: share the shoot, share the cost. Enquire within.
